It's time for a new feature! (I love new features, don't you?) This new feature is called.... Hope's Crafty Secrets! Today's Hope's Crafty Secrets Topic is: Tie-Dye Tips!
Supplies Needed:
Dye
T-shirts or other clothing
Rubber bands (lots of them)
Extra Supplies (Just in case):
Gloves
Apron or Smock
Quick Supply Shopping Note: You can buy dye at Michaels Crafts Store or any other craft store near you.
Dye Step: Make sure that you have your dye poured into bottles where you can squirt dye out easily.
You can make different designs of tie-dye on T-shirts. The ones that I will teach you today are: Spirals, Bullseye, Lines
Spiral Directions:
1. Take your T-shirt and lay it out flat.
2. Put your finger in the middle of the T-shirt. Twist T-shirt in a spiral direction until fully spiraled.
3. Put rubber bands across the shirt in the pattern of this sign: *
4. (A) If you want three colors:
-Start from center, squirt out dye in your selected color (be sure to even go inside of creases to get rid of all the white in the T-shirt)
-Go farther out on the T-shirt, spreading a different color dye of your choice over the T-shirt
-Finish the final section of your T-shirt with the dye of your choice.
(B) Two Color Spiral
-For a two-colored spiral you will need to spread larger amounts of dye over your T-shirt
-Start from the center of the T-shirt, making sure to cover up all of the white in the T-shirt
-Go to the final section of the T-shirt covering up all white spots
Bullseye Directions:
1. Lay your T-shirt out flat
2. Roll your T-shirt together horizontally
3. Pull rubber bands over your lined-up T-shirt every so inches, depending on the size of the shirt and how far you want the bullseye to go
4. (A) Color-White-Color Pattern
-Apply dye over first square section
-Stop at about an inch close to the first rubber band
-Leave over about an inch from the first rubber band
-Continue to apply the next color dye
-Apply the next color dye only up to the second rubber band
-Repeat this pattern, rotating and alternating colors throughout the bands to create a bullseye.
-Creating a Color-White-Color pattern T-shirt will make a color spot, then it will become white again, and then the white will fade into another color
(B) Color-Color Pattern
-Apply the first selected color on your T-shirt up to the first rubber band
-After the first section with the rubber band, advance with a different color dye of your choice and continue with that color until the next rubber band
-Repeat this step over and over, rotating and alternating colors at each rubber band
To create lines, do bullseye step B, creating lines of different color on the T-shirt.
I hope that this helps with your Crafty Matters! Enjoy your Tie-Dye T-shirts and if you have any questions or comments or suggestions, please post them as a comment!
